DENTAL BRIDGE
A dental bridge is a fixed dental prosthesis that replaces missing teeth by taking support from the healthy adjacent teeth.
WHAT DOES A DENTAL BRIDGE DO?
A dental bridge replaces missing tooth or teeth and helps you in chewing and esthetics.
WHAT ARE DENTAL BRIDGES MADE OF?
There are several materials used to make a dental bridge. Some of the most common types are metal, ceramic or zirconia bridges. Depending on individual needs and requirements, the dentist would be able to advise which one suits you the best.
HOW IS A DENTAL BRIDGE FIXED TO TEETH?
Dental bridges are fixed to teeth with the help of some dental cement.
HOW LONG DOES A DENTAL BRIDGE LAST?
Dental bridges last a long time. It depends on how an individual maintains his oral hygiene and takes care of his teeth. With regular tooth brushing, occasional flossing and judicious eating habits, you can expect a dental bridge to last 5 to 10 years at the least if not more.
DO I NEED TO REPLACE DENTAL BRIDGES?
Over time, mechanical wear and tear of dental bridges do happen. Bridges that are worn out completely and cosmetically unappealing should be replaced.
WHAT HAPPENS IF MY BRIDGE DISLODGES?
Occasionally the dental bridge can dislodge from teeth. If there is no damage to the bridge and the supporting teeth, the same bridge can be refixed if done within 5 to 7 days. If the dental bridge is not fixed within this time frame, the adjacent teeth can move and the dental bridge will no longer fit. Time is of the essence in this scenario.
WHAT ARE THE DISADVANTAGES OF DENTAL BRIDGE?
A dental bridge replaces missing tooth or teeth taking support from the adjacent healthy teeth. In essence, there is intentionally damage to otherwise healthy adjacent teeth. The dentist will be able to discuss the pros and cons of dental bridges and alternative options such as dental implants with you at the time of replacement of missing teeth.
